Frequently Asked Questions

Many people may be familar with the concept of Live Role Playing games but may not have considered taking part. For some the idea of stumbling across members of the public whilst wearing a cloak and weilding a rubber sword may not be a comfortable idea. However stumblin into the public  whilst wearing combats or a tweed jacket may seem to be a better option. The list of questions and answers is specific to the 'Better the devil you know' event but does cover the SFLRP hobby.

Is ‘Better the Devil you know’ a Role Playing game or a Combat game?

BTD is a live action role playing game (LRP/LARP) and like most such games whether they be science fiction, fantasy, steampunk etc. there is often a need to resolve combat. Lazer Tag is the system that we use for reasons of safety and efficiency. The event is designed to offer players a balance between Combat and role-playing and whilst you will always need to wear a sensor you do not in fact need to play a character who uses a weapon.

Does the system use real lasers?

No. Lasers are banned and are not allowed games for reasons of safety. The guns themselves emit Infra-Red light similar to your TV remote control.

I wish to play a non-combatant, is this possible?

Yes you will still require a sensor but you can play a character that cannot/will not fire a gun.
